چکیده

A multiple regression model for the analysis o f twin data is described in which a cotwin's score is predicted from a proband's score and the coefficient o f relationship (R = 1.0 and 0.5 for identical and fraternal twin pairs, respectively). This model is especially appropriate for the analysis o f data on twins in which one member o f each pair has been selected because o f a deviant score, e.g., low reading performance. When the model is fitted to such data, the partial regression o f the cotwin's score on the coefficient o f relationship provides a powerful test o f the extent to which the difference between the mean for probands and that for the unselected population is heritable, i.e., a test for genetic etiology. By fitting an augmented model containing an interaction term to either selected or unselected data sets, direct estimates o f heritability and the proportion o f variance due to shared environmental influences can also be obtained (subject, o f course, to the usual assumptions underlying twin analyses, e.g., a linear polygenic model, little or n~o assortative mating, and equal shared environmental influences for identical and fraternal twins).

Multiple regression analysis of twin data obtained from selected samples.

The multiple regression analysis of twin data in which a cotwin's score is predicted from that of a proband (the member of a twin pair selected because of a deviant score) and the coefficient of relationship provides a powerful test of genetic etiology (DeFries and Fulker: Behav Genet 15:467-473, 1985). Moreover, when an augmented model containing an interaction term is fitted to the same data ...

Multiple regression analysis of reading performance data from twin pairs with reading difficulties and nontwin siblings: the augmented model.

The augmented multiple regression model for the analysis of data from selected twin pairs was extended to facilitate analyses of data from twin pairs and nontwin siblings. Fitting this extended model to data from both selected twin pairs and siblings yields direct estimates of heritability (h2) and the difference betwee...

I-40: Ultrasound in Multiple Pregnancy

Ultrasound has revolutioned the care of women carring twins. First trimester evaluation is the best time to determine chorioniocity and amnioniocity in multiple gestations. First trimester diagnosis is based on the number of gestational sacs, amnions and yolk sacs. Growth rate in multiple multiple gestations during the fist and early second trimesters parallels the growth rate of singleton preg...

Comparison of Artificial Neural Network and Multiple Regression Analysis for Prediction of Fat Tail Weight of Sheep

A comparative study of artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple regression is made to predict the fat tail weight of Balouchi sheep from birth, weaning and finishing weights. A multilayer feed forward network with back propagation of error learning mechanism was used to predict the sheep body weight. The data (69 records) were randomly divided into two subsets. The first subset is the train...

Logistic Regression Analysis of Some Factors Influencing Incidence of Retained Placenta in a Holstein Dairy Herd

To investigate the effects of certain factors on the rate of retained placenta, 2844 calving records from 1288 Holstein cows in a herd were used. These cows calved during year period of 2001 to 2007. A generalized statistical linear model was applied to analyze the data. Logistic regression model was applied as the statistical model. In the model, fixed effects of year, season (warm or cold) an...
